Kaaha Kaahiye is a Somali writer, filmmaker, producer, and thinker based in Minneapolis, MN. A former teacher and community organizer, her work explores Somali life and history, surveillance, and themes of connection and disconnection. Her creative practice is shaped by a deep commitment to justice, Somalinimo, speculative fiction, and spirituality. Drawing from her 20 years as a public housing resident and 7 as an organizer, Kaahiye’s work reflects on place, space, and who gets to build community. She is currently co-directing a short documentary on the Minneapolis response to the 2020 uprising, and completing music and playwriting projects.
