Dinah L. George (she/they) is the Founder and Land Steward of Cowrie Acres LLC, an urban farm project in Lansing, MI rooted in regenerative agriculture, African diasporic foodways, and heirloom seeds preserved by Black growers across the U.S. As an environmental and food justice advocate, Dinah builds partnerships with food hubs, farmers, producers, environmental justice practitioners, and community organizations to strengthen regional food systems. Their work spans the Midwest, addressing issues such as air quality, climate resilience, federal policy, and urban agriculture while advancing food sovereignty. Dinah holds an M.S. in Environment & Sustainability from the University of Michigan with a specialization in Environmental Justice and a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in African American & African Studies from Michigan State University. Their land stewardship is rooted in the legacy of Black communities’ relationship to land and the belief that reconnecting with land is a form of healing and heart work.
